The History of Helpful Hallie’s™ Mighty Miracle Mist™

I am the owner of a music education company (http://www.ColourMeMusic.com) and I have been in music education for the past 15 years. I have the privilege of teaching students both in their homes as well as in a school setting. In addition to teaching students, I train other teachers the art of successful teaching. I am also the mother of a preschooler. Basically, I have pretty much seen it all.

Through my years of teaching and parenting, I have read countless books and attended several seminars that taught how best to communicate with children. With this knowledge combined with my experience, I consider myself an expert in how to help students become better learners.

Very often, students and their families come to me not just because I teach music, but how I teach music. I know how to identify inefficient and ineffective learning and behavior patterns, and then teach the student better ones. I also work with the parents to assist their children in implementing better learning patterns.

As parents, teachers and caregivers, it is our job to teach children proper behavior. Very often because we think it will yield the fastest result, we use the strongest approach when all is needed is a gently word. We find ourselves getting into a battle of wills, which really nobody wins. The aftermath of which leaves us with a frustrated child and a grown up who feels angry and guilty.

This is where the art of redirection comes in. Redirection means simply, to change the direction or focus. Helpful Hallie’s™ Mighty Miracle Mist™ was developed to interrupt undesired behavior patterns in young children, so they can be redirected to exhibit more positive ones. The result is three fold:

1. Children are given a physical representation of the behavior being asked of them. They associate this as being outside of themselves, and no longer have to exhibit undesired behavior as a matter of principle. Basically, nobody has to “save face”.

2. Children will come to associate a positive experience with the desired behavior and start regulating their own behaviors with Helpful Hallie’s™ Mighty Miracle Mist™.

3. Parents, teachers and caregivers also have their behavior patterns interrupted and enjoy redirecting children instead of always having to “be the bad guy”.

The four sprays; Good Thinking & Pay Attention, Kind Voice & Good Manners, Cooperation & Sharing, and Good Night have all been developed and tested with my students, their parents and of course, my 4 ½ year old daughter. The results have been astonishing.

Students who were not willing to step outside of their comfort zones, or who had difficulty paying attention immediately performed the task at hand when the room was sprayed with Good Thinking & Pay Attention spray. Students now ask for the spray when they know they need to get to work, or a new skill might require some concentration. It makes the process much more fun for them and for me.

My daughter, who was trying out a very angry and inappropriate tone of voice, immediately and intentionally changed her tone to a nice one as soon as I sprayed the room with Kind Voice & Good Manners spray. It also works great when you are at the dinner table and good manners are required.

Cooperation & Sharing spray works wonders when children are having difficulty sharing. Again, nobody wins a battle of wills. So, when sharing is “put into the air” or “the room is filled with cooperation”, young children get excited about working together or with parents and teachers. This spray also works great with transitions such as cleaning up or even going potty.

Good Night spray is a wonder at the bedtime transition. I spray the room and create a “sleepy” atmosphere. It also “gets rid” of anything that might frighten children.

Children learn best by example, and will handle situations very much like they are shown by the grown ups around them. If we get angry, so will they.
